A Brief History of the Tournament

You may wonder why this tournament has such a brief history. After all, youth bowling has been organized in Pennsylvania for over 35 years.

The State Association, for 28 years, conducted a Team Championships Tournament. This tournament was a step ladder event, much like our current Pepsi Tournament, but designed for Teams Only. Teams would bowl in their local tournament, and if they qualified form there, they would advance to a District Team Tournament.

The Champions from the District Tournament, in each Division of the event would then advance to the State Finals weekend, where the tournament was conducted in one day. The tournament never awarded scholarships until about 2002. The scholarships were small at the time, and change was on the horizon.

In 2004 the State Youth Association Board had to make a change, we had to catch up with the times and do what many other states were doing for their youth bowlers. Thus the Youth Championships Tournament as we know it today was born. Offering all youth bowlers in Pennsylvania the opportunity to bowl for a State Championship, not just in Team Events, but also Doubles, Singles and All Events.

The Tournament has grown a little bit each year and we look forward to many more successful years to come.
